Autumn is my favourite season in Cape Town. The sky is crystal blue, the weather is neither too hot nor too cold, there are a lot less tourists and you’re not blown over by a gust of wind every two seconds. It’s also a great time of year to dust off my beloved trench coat and prance around in my favourite ankle boots. I believe that these two items should be a staple to anyone’s wardrobe.
A trench coat is perfect to throw on over a little cocktail dress for a formal evening, to look stylish and professional at work or to wear with a pair of light blue jeans and some brown leather brogues for a more casual look. Not to mention, they tend to make you look extra classy and important. I bought this gorgeous camel trench coat from Mango (similar one here) while I was in London last year. It was a last minute buy to save me from from the cold wind at the Henley Regatta. Us South African’s aren’t as tough as the Brits. I was the only person there wearing a coat, all the other spectators were in summer dresses!
My black ankle boots are from Aldo. I love to pair them with blue jeans or a straight pencil skirt like this one. I love their simplicity as well as their ability to make an outfit look casual and classy at the same time. These shoes have lasted SO well, I’ve worn them on many nights out. On one occasion I left them downstairs and our new German Shepard puppy decided to give them a chew! Surprisingly, they survived and are still in good condition.
My body suit and skirt are both from Forever New. They’re both very neutral and easy to style with any other items. A skirt and top like this are perfect for those confusing in-between – season months, when you’re not too sure if you’re hot or cold. I can also wear them through winter with some stockings, a chunky scarf and warm coat.
Hope you enjoyed this little post! What are your staples for your autumn wardrobe?
Side note: I just wanted to give my brother, Michael some credit for these wonderful photos! He’s developed a great passion for photography and was kind enough to wake up at 6:30 am to take them for me. Check out his Instagram account here!
My autumn essentials include boots too! I also really love rust colored outfits! Wonderful blog post! Feel free to check out my latest blog post too!
